Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte after running the bases without issue over the weekend.

Teel has been on the injured list since July 21 with a left high-ankle sprain. He has progressed through recent activity, including batting practice and base running, and is now cleared for game action in the minors.

According to reports, Teel is scheduled to start the assignment on Tuesday with Charlotte. The White Sox have not specified how many games he will need before being activated, but the club has indicated he could return once he shows he can handle a full workload behind the plate. His last rehab assignment was rather short-lived, so it will be interesting to see how long this one lasts.

Drew Romo and Jake Rogers have shared catching duties in Teel’s absence. Teel is expected to reclaim the primary role upon his return to the major league roster.
