The baseball community lost a legendary sportswriter this Friday.

Jim Henneman, a longtime Orioles reporter for The Baltimore Sun, has died at the age of 89. In addition to covering Baltimore sports for decades, he was the primary scorekeeper at Camden Yards.

The Orioles confirmed on Friday morning that Henneman has passed away by releasing a classy statement.

"Henny’s friendly demeanor, words of wisdom, and historical anecdotes will be dearly missed," the Orioles said in a statement. "We are all better for knowing him and are eternally grateful for his dedication to the Orioles for more than eight decades. The Camden Yards’ press box will forever bear his name and be a welcoming place to remember and recognize his life and legacy."

Tributes for Henneman have been pouring in this Friday.

"RIP Jim Henneman, the beloved Baltimore sports writer who was a great friend to so many of us in the baseball writing community," Bob Nightengale said. "He was honored last year when the Baltimore Orioles had the Camden Yards press box named in his honor. He'll be greatly missed."

"Through all the years I covered the Orioles, Henny was the sweetest and kindest guy. He welcomed everyone and just loved the game. RIP to one of the greats," one person added.

"One of the greatest things about the wonderful Jim Henneman was that with his decades of experience he wanted to talk about what was happening now-and always excited about the future," another person wrote. "He was supportive of some of the younger members of the Orioles beat, and some older ones, too."

Back in April 2024, the Orioles honored Henneman by renaming their press box the "Jim Henneman Press Box."

There's no question his legacy will live on for years to come.
