Look of the Day for Fri. 6/14: Pounce on the Phillies as 'dogs

We avoided an extra-inning disaster on Thursday night to cash our second straight Look of the Day winner, and we're looking to finish the week strong three straight. Let's go right back to the diamond for our favorite bet of Friday's MLB slate.

Look of the Day: Philadelphia Phillies moneyline (+114 DraftKings)

This is a principle play on arguably the best team and best starting pitcher in the National League this year. Ranger Suarez has been dominant in 2024 with a 10-1 record, a 1.81 ERA and a league-best 0.854 WHIP. The left-hander ranks in the 90th percentile in average exit velocity, the 90th percentile in ground ball rate and the 91st percentile in xwOBA.

This might seem like a scary matchup for Suarez against the Baltimore Orioles, but this lineup is struggling against left-handed pitching right now. Since the start of June, the Orioles rank 26th in MLB in batting average, 25th in OPS and 24th in wRC+ against lefties. This isn't a great spot to turn that around against one of the best pitchers at limiting hard contact.

Orioles starter Kyle Bradish has been extremely effective this year at pounding the zone and challenging opposing hitters, but that's a dangerous strategy to employ against a Phillies lineup with a ton of pop.

Philadelphia is 12-1 this season when Suarez takes the mound. Of course we're going to take Suarez and the Phils as underdogs.
