The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the National League West with a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday that sparked a celebration at Chase Field.

“Very rewarding. That’s one of our goals as we start the season, to win the division,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“Like I say all the time, no year is the same. I do feel that in totality, we’re playing our best baseball of the season. The win-loss hasn’t reflected it, but I think that’s what’s most important. There’s just been a lot of good things and a lot of growth from a lot of players, which has been fun to see.

“And I think, again, the most important thing is we’re coming together at the right time.”

It’s the Dodgers’ 12th NL West title amid a streak of 13 consecutive postseason appearances. That is tied with the 1997-2007 New York Yankees for the second-longest postseason streak in MLB history, and trails only the 1991-2005 Atlanta Braves, who had 14 straight playoff appearances.

Although the Dodgers had their streak of consecutive NL West titles snapped at eight by the San Francisco Giants in 2021, the franchise is in the midst of a historic stretch.

In 2016, the Dodgers became the first team in MLB history to win the NL West in four consecutive seasons since the Divisional Era began in 1969. Overall, the Dodgers’ streak of eight division titles trailed only the Braves (14) and Yankees (nine) for most division titles in a row since 1969.

During that time, Roberts set a managerial record by guiding the Dodgers to an NL West title in each of his first five seasons. In 2019, Roberts became the first manager in MLB history to lead his team to a division title in each of his first four full seasons.

Roberts previously joined Tommy Lasorda (1977) as the only rookie managers in Dodgers history to lead a team to the division title.

This also marks the 12th consecutive full season the Dodgers have won 90 games in a season. The last time they failed to do so was in 2012.

What’s next for Dodgers after clinching NL West title?

Now having officially secured the No. 3 seed in the NL playoffs, the Dodgers will begin postseason play by hosting a best-of-three Wild Card Series at Dodger Stadium.

They are set to face the third NL Wild Card team, which will either be the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds or Diamondbacks.

Game 1 of the Wild Card Series is Tuesday, Sept. 30. Game 2 is the following night, and if necessary, a Game 3 would be played Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies earned first-round byes into the NL Division Series by virtue of finishing with the top two records.
