The Philadelphia Phillies lost the first two games of the Divisional series at home, but have stormed back in Los Angeles. Philadelphia’s offense exploded in Game 3, putting up eight runs. Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs, and the Phillies had the jolt they desperately needed. With all of the pressure on the Dodgers, the Phillies had a chance to bring it back home.
Phillies Choked The Game Away
Jesus Luzardo entered the game in the bottom of the tenth, after pitching great in Game 2, and got himself into a jam in the eleventh. Two singles by Tommy Edman and Max Muncy put an immense amount of pressure on Luzardo. Rob Thomson put in Orion Kerkering, who has struggled throughout this series. He walked Kiké Hernández, loading the bases with two outs. Andy Pages came up to the plate, and a base hit would send the Dodgers to the Championship series. Pages hit a ground ball to Kerkering, who had an easy play at first, but ended up making a crucial mistake, overthrowing the ball to home plate, ending the Phillies’ season. That has to be one of the toughest endings that a team has had in recent years. The Dodgers will move on to the Championship Round and will face the winner of the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs Series. It is expected that Shohei Ohtani will start Game 1 for the Los Angeles Dodgers.More must-reads:
