Matt Brash (right lat inflammation) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma tonight.
Brash has been on the 15-day IL retroactive to April 30 due to his lat injury. But before going down, the 28-year-old pitched in 14 appearances and posted 11.1 innings of scoreless baseball out of the Mariners' bullpen.
The Mariners' pen entered the day with the third-best ERA (3.15) in baseball.
Brash has been an important relief arm for the Mariners dating back to the 2023 season. Last year, he posted a 2.47 ERA in 47.1 innings with Seattle.
The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2024 and did not make an appearance in that season. He returned to be a productive reliever for the Mariners last year.
If the Mariners are going to turn things around, they will need Brash and Raleigh back healthy in the near future.
The Mariners are off to a slow start in 2026 and entered Thursday with a 21-23 record. However, they're only two games back of first place in a weak American League West division.
Seattle won the AL West in 2025 and made their deepest playoff run in franchise history, making it all the way to Game 7 of the ALCS. They're hoping to replicate or exceed last season's success this year.
