The Seattle Mariners have leaned heavily on their farm system in recent seasons, and that makes sense considering where it's ranked league-wide.
Last August, MLB.com placed the Mariners' pipeline in the no. 3 spot across the league, trailing only the Dodgers' and Twins' farm systems, and climbing from the no. 9 and no. 5 spots in the prior two years.
One of the most anticipated arrivals from Seattle's system is Colt Emerson, a 20-year-old shortstop and No. 7 prospect in baseball.
The Mariners signed Emerson to a then-record eight-year, $95 million deal on Tuesday, with the shortstop opening the 2026 season in Triple-A Tacoma.
The hopes placed on Emerson's development and impending major-league arrival, however, suffered a hit on Saturday week after a brief injury scare.
Emerson exited the first game of a Triple-A doubleheader on Saturday after fouling a pitch off his right foot, prompting concern given his possible call-up later this season.
However, the initial fears of a more serious setback were put to rest on Saturday night, following a report from The Seattle Times' Ryan Divish.
“X-Rays came back negative on Colt Emerson’s foot. He’s day to day,” Divish wrote on X.

Across last year, Emerson hit .285, going 144-for-507 with 16 home runs while advancing from Single-A to Triple-A by the end of the season.
According to MLB.com's Daniel Kramer, Emerson is day-to-day, with the Mariners expected to monitor how his foot responds before determining when he can return to game action.
In seven games this season, Emerson is batting .269 (7-of-26), including two doubles, a home run, and three RBIs.
