Another week, and another Miami Marlins starting pitcher is hitting the shelf with an injury. On Sunday, ahead of his scheduled start against the New York Mets, the team placed starter Janson Junk on the 15-Day IL with right shin inflammation.
The news came as a surprise on Sunday morning, as Junk was a last-minute scratch and replaced by reliever John King. When speaking to reporters after the announcement, Junk wasn't concerned with the severity of the injury, but the team is expecting him to miss 2-3 weeks.
"I think it's just getting off my feet a little bit and taking the load off that leg", Junk told the media. "Keeping the arm healthy, I think that is the biggest thing and letting that inflammation die down."
Couple of really tough blows today for the Fish.

Andrew Nardi is out for three months and Janson Junk, who was supposed to start today, is headed to the 15-day IL with right shin inflammation.

An injury would have explained Junk's recent skid when he allowed seven earned runs against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 15th and eight earned runs against the Atlanta Braves in his next start on May 20th. But in his last start, Junk stifled the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing just one earned run in five innings and picking up his third win of the season.
After winning a spot in the Opening Day rotation, Junk has posted a 4.80 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 60.0 innings of work. He isn't a high strikeout pitcher and can be prone to allowing hits, but so far Junk has been decently effective at the major league level for the Marlins.
Janson Junk will be going on the 15-day IL, becoming the third #Marlins starter this month to be sidelined.

Josh White will be recalled for the first time.
Junk becomes the third starting pitcher for the Marlins to hit the injured list this month. Top prospect Robby Snelling was announced out for the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery after just one MLB start this season. Earlier this week, Eury Perez injured himself stretching between innings against the Blue Jays. The injury was labelled as a right gracilis strain in his inner thigh, and Perez is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks.
In a corresponding move, the Marlins called up pitcher Josh White from Triple-A Jacksonville. White, 25, has been a reliever in the Marlins' farm system since 2022, when the team selected him in the fifth round of the MLB Draft. If and when he gets into a Marlins game, it will be White's major league debut.
