Jakob Marsee and Tyler Zuber are facing lengthy recoveries after the Miami Marlins confirmed plans for both players to undergo elbow surgery. The procedures involve ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) repairs with an internal brace, with the two players facing different recovery timelines.

According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, Marsee will have his left elbow repaired, while Zuber will undergo the same procedure on his right elbow. Both surgeries are scheduled for Monday.

Marsee is expected to need approximately six months to recover, while Zuber could miss most or all of the 2027 season. The timelines leave Miami with two roster questions to address during the offseason.

Marsee, a 25-year-old outfielder, finished the 2026 regular season with a .231 batting average, 11 home runs, 41 RBIs and 23 stolen bases in 155 games. His speed and ability to cover center field make his recovery important as Miami evaluates its outfield options for next season.

Zuber, meanwhile, appeared in 44 games as a reliever, posting a 5.67 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 39 2/3 innings. His absence could leave Miami with another bullpen spot to address as it builds its pitching staff for 2027.

The Marlins finished the 2026 season at 80-82, third in the National League East. Although they fell short of a postseason berth, Marsee’s role in the lineup gives the team a reason to monitor his rehabilitation closely.

Miami’s latest injury report lists Marsee’s expected return in April or May, while Zuber is projected to return in 2028 after a 10-to-12-month recovery. Those timelines could change depending on their progress after surgery.
