Just because he skipped pitching Tuesday night’s All‑Star Game doesn’t mean Max Fried wasn’t working. The Yankees ace may not have taken the mound, but he was doing duty as “Uncle Max.”
Fried spent Monday and Tuesday hanging out with fellow lefty Carlos Rodon and his family. Monday night, Fried, Rodon and his eldest son, Bo, 4, chilled right on the field during the Home Run Derby. When Rodon posted shots of the crew, Gerrit Cole’s wife Amy added the perfect caption: “Uncle Max.”
On Tuesday, they hit the red carpet together. The Rodon men —Carlos and sons Bo and Silo —stepped out sharp in purple brocade and black satin. When the toddler Bo got tuckered out and his dad paused for an MLB Network interview, Fried sprang into action, swooping up the kiddo and walking him through photo ops. Rodon’s wife, Ashley, who was standing behind her husband with daughter Willow, could be heard off‑camera cooing, “Uncle Max,” cementing his honorary title.

On the mound, Fried’s real work has been just as stellar.
Through 20 starts this season, Fried (31) is 11–3 with a superb 2.43 ERA, 113 strikeouts, and a stingy 1.01 WHIP across 122 innings.. His April dominance even earned him American League Pitcher of the Month honors, and he’s remained a Cy Young contender all season .
Rodon, meanwhile, was named as Fried’s All‑Star replacement and has delivered a solid season of his own. After a rough first two years in Yankees’ pinstripes, he has a 10–6 record, 3.08 ERA, 135 K’s, and a 1.00 WHIP in 119⅔ innings over 20 starts.
Sure, Fried might’ve deferred his All‑Star inning, but between derby duties and toddler transports, he’s been busy.
It seems like “Uncle Max” is as cool an honor as All-Star.
