The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us, and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title but a subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Fightins are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series championship.
Over the next few days, we'll discuss each player who can make the Phils' active roster and our expectations for each. Next up is a former Arizona Diamondbacks prospect fighting for another shot at the show.
Name: Buddy Kennedy
Number: 29
Position: Infield
Throws: Right
Bats: Right
Build: 5'10", 190 lbs.
Age: 26
Acquired: 2024 Regular Season Trade with Detroit Tigers
Socials: Instagram
2024 Stats: Slashed .190/.308/.381 in 14 games (21 ABs) between the Tigers and Phils. He spent the majority of the year at AAA, with a .272/.373/.458 line, 19 HRs, and 49 RBI in 106 games with Toledo and Lehigh Valley.
2025 Projections: Kennedy is out of minor league options, so the Phillies risk losing him to a waiver claim if he doesn't make the team out of camp. He's been trotted out at first, second, third, and left field in an effort to find a fit, but his bat has not looked up to par. Meanwhile, his chief competition, Kody Clemens, has been raking as of late. It's unfortunate, but more likely, that the Millville, NJ, native either ends up on another team or back in AAA.
Stay tuned through spring training for previews of the rest of the Phillies' roster.
