Mets Acquire Reliever From Red Sox Via Trade
Mike De Sisti / USA TODAY NETWORK

NASHVILLE - The New York Mets are bolstering their minor league pitching depth.

Following the Rule 5 Draft at winter meetings on Wednesday, the Mets flipped their selection, right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten, for Boston Red Sox minor league left-handed reliever Ryan Ammons and cash.

Ammons has yet to pitch in the minor leagues, as he spent 2023 with Clemson before a forearm injury ended his season prematurely and kept him out of minor league play.

Trading Slaten was a bit of a surprise as he was a highly regarded prospect in the Rule 5 Draft, who was expected to be selected with a top pick.

For the Mets, acquiring Ammons was a pure depth move, as he will begin his minor league career at the lower levels of the minor leagues in 2024.
