Mets Announce Major Francisco Lindor News on Saturday

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor finished second in National League MVP voting last season. Trailing only Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for that award, Lindor turned in an impressive season before leading the Mets to an NLCS appearance in October.

Lindor is hitless in seven at-bats to start 2025, but is known for often starting slow before coming alive in the second half. Finishing last season with 33 home runs and an .844 OPS, Lindor was carried by a post All-Star break run that saw him record a .942 OPS while driving in 39 runs in 57 games.

As Lindor attempts to start better this season than in previous years, the four-time All-Star has some major personal news off the field. On Saturday, the Mets announced via manager Carlos Mendoza that the star shortstop could be forced to miss time soon due to his wife expecting another child in the next week or two.

"It could happen at any time," Mendoza said (via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com). "It's been like that for the last week."

Lindor and his wife, Katia, already have two children together. Kalina Zoé (4) and Amapola Chloé (1) are the couple's two daughters. It was announced by Lindor and his wife on Feb. 16 that they were expecting their first son (via Instagram) and it now seems he could be born very soon.

Per Mendoza, the Mets do not know how much time Lindor will be forced to miss once his third child is born.
