The New York Mets are in the midst of a losing streak, dropping five games of their six-game home stand this past week in Queens. This includes getting swept by the Athletics where the Met's offense was unable to score, getting shut out twice in that three-game set.
Now, manager Carlos Mendoza is looking to revive a slumping Mets squad that is need of some serious offensive help. Before kicking off their second road trip of the year with a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night, the Mets elevated outfielder Tommy Pham to the active roster, while optioning infielder Ronny Mauricio to Triple-A affiliate Syracuse (h/t New York Mets).

Pham became an unrestricted free agent at the end of last season, signing a minor-league deal with the Mets on March 27. The 38-year-old started the season at Class A St. Lucie, hitting .167 with a double, three walks, three strikeouts and one RBI in six games.
“The newest 38-year-old prospect,” Pham jokingly told Beth Harris of the New Haven Register. “A lot of smiles on faces today, so I’m happy I could provide some sunshine.”
Pham, a 12-year MLB veteran, spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, batting .245 with 10 home runs and 52 RBIS. He has passed through the Mets clubhouse before as well, spending part of the 2023 season with the Mets before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 79 games that year, he hit .268 with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs.
“He’s a competitor, a pro, a guy that goes about his business the right way, the way he competes and how much he wants to win,” Mendoza told Harris. “Yesterday when word got out on the way here, I got a couple of ex-coaches telling me how much you’re going to love this guy. He's a guy that knows what it takes to play here in New York and wants to be part of it.”
Mendoza's squad is still reeling from the absence of All-Star Juan Soto, who has been sidelined since April 3 with a right calf strain. Soto did not travel with the Mets for the road trip and Mendoza expects him to be out for two to three weeks.
After their three-game set against the Dodgers, the Mets will head back east to face the Chicago Cubs before returning to Citi Field.
