New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos had a breakout year in 2024, slashing .266/.322/.516 with 27 homers and 71 RBI in 111 games. However, the 25-year-old has taken a step back this season, slashing .230/.298/.380 with six homers and 21 RBI in 53 contests.

Vientos is fifth on the team in homers, RBI, total bases (71), and walks (17), but is also second in strikeouts (49). Star first baseman Pete Alonso leads with 55 strikeouts, but he has 222 at-bats against Vientos' 187.

Vientos injured his right hamstring in the 10th inning of Monday's game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, and manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update before Tuesday's game, via SNY.

"We want to fly him back to New York tonight and get him and MRI tomorrow. We'll see what we're dealing with here," he said. "We know it's a strain for sure, and now we just gotta wait for the MRI and see what type of grade we've got here."

"We don't know [the severity], but based on the testing that he went through last night, we know it's a strain, and we just gotta wait and see," he continued.

The Mets beat the Dodgers 4-3 in 10 innings on Monday to kick off their road trip. They'll rematch Los Angeles on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before facing the Colorado Rockies and hosting the Washington Nationals.

New York is 8-2 in its last 10 games and is in first place in the NL East. It also entered Tuesday's slate a half-game ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the NL's best record.
