The New York Mets lost the first game of their four-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Monday and have continued their slump. New York has lost each of their last two games and nine of their last 10. On Tuesday, the Mets will aim to get back on track against Atlanta, who they have not defeated all season up to this point.
Following their loss on Monday, the Mets received a concerning injury update regarding one of their key players that will most likely make an impact on the team for both the short and long term as the team looks to regain its momentum.
Despite the Mets' recent slumps, they are still one of the top teams in the MLB. With a 46-33 record, they are just 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the lead in the NL East, and they have the fourth-best record in the NL. However, despite their general success, the Mets have been without one of their key players: pitcher Sean Manaea.
Manaea has not pitched all season for New York due to an oblique strain. Though he was making progress towards his return, he has reportedly suffered a setback. According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Indiana native is dealing with "discomfort stemming from a loose body in his left elbow" and has been shut down.
"News: Sean Manaea has been shut down from throwing for 48-72 hours due to discomfort stemming from a loose body in his left elbow," DiComo wrote on X. "He had been getting close to an MLB return."

In his first season with the Mets last year, Manaea recorded a 3.47 ERA and a 1.084 WHIP. Additionally, he earned Cy Young Award votes for the first time in his career.
This is a tough development for the Mets, who are already going through a rough patch. Hopefully for them, Manaea can bounce back and make his return to the mound sooner rather than later.
