With Griffin Canning likely heading to the injured list, the New York Mets are turning to their farm system for reinforcements.
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Mets are expected to call right-hander Blade Tidwell ahead of Friday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tidwell had been scheduled to start Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse, but the game was postponed due to rain.
Tidwell, a second-round pick in 2022, will meet the team in Pittsburgh and could slot into the rotation immediately. Additional roster moves could follow, per Sammon.
Canning exited Thursday's win over the Atlanta Braves with what the team initially labeled an ankle injury. However, there's growing concern the injury may involve his Achilles tendon. The Mets are awaiting MRI results to determine the severity.

“I’m confident the other pitchers in the rotation and in the minors will step up,” Mendoza said postgame.
Tidwell gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings during his second major-league start Friday, but he still owns a 9.82 ERA and a 2.59 WHIP with the Mets this season.
