The New York Mets were compelled to adjust their roster Sunday after infielder Ronny Mauricio fractured his left thumb, leading to a 10-day injured list placement.

Mauricio sustained the injury during Saturday’s 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Los Angeles Angels when he slid headfirst into first base in the seventh inning. The play came after he logged an infield single that loaded the bases in a tie game. He had also homered on Friday night, a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh inning. In 10 MLB games this season, Mauricio is hitting .219/.219/.313 with one home run and two RBI.

In response, the Mets selected the contract of Vidal Brujan from Triple-A Syracuse. To clear a 40-man roster spot, first baseman Eric Wagaman was designated for assignment. Wagaman had not appeared in a game for New York after being claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins earlier this week.

Brujan, 28, was hitting .241 over 24 games in Syracuse with a .618 OPS, one home run, and seven RBI. Thirteen of his 24 starts came at shortstop, with additional time at second and third base. He also brings defensive versatility across all four infield spots and all three outfield positions, along with four career pitching appearances. At shortstop in the majors, Brujan has recorded four Defensive Runs Saved over 363 1/3 innings, including two DRS during a stint with Atlanta last season.

Brujan previously played in the majors with the Tampa Bay Rays, debuting in 2021, and later appeared in parts of three seasons in Tampa Bay. In 2024 with the Miami Marlins, he hit .222/.303/.319 over 278 plate appearances.

The Mets are also managing multiple injuries in the infield, with Francisco Lindor on the IL due to a calf strain. Bo Bichette, originally signed to play third base, finished Saturday’s game at shortstop and is expected to continue seeing time there moving forward, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.
