The New York Mets’ season isn’t just slow out of the gate, but messy, uneven, and still searching for direction. Even with big-name additions, the roster hasn’t clicked, and that frustration is starting to show in both results and locker room tone.
That reality hit again as Bo Bichette stepped up and, in one word, summed up the problem: identity. Sitting at 9-19 through late April, the Mets are already digging out of a deep hole, while Kodai Senga’s struggles only add more pressure on a rotation trying to steady itself.
According to reporting shared on X through SleeperMets, Bichette admitted the team is still figuring itself out. He emphasized patience but also acknowledged the lack of clarity on the field.
“We’re definitely in the middle of it. But the World Series isn’t won in April. We’ve got a lot of season left. The way to approach it is to come to the field and just play because we haven’t figured out an identity.”

That uncertainty mirrors what’s happening with Senga, who is now 0-4 with a 5.48 ERA and declining velocity. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza has already opened the door to possible role changes or even a Triple-A reset, depending on discussions with the front office.
Kodai Senga’s 2026 season hasn’t exactly gone to plan for the Mets. The right-hander is sitting at 0-4 with a rough 5.48 ERA, and the command just hasn’t been there. Walks are piling up, and early exits are becoming the norm rather than a surprise.
It’s a far cry from the ace-level form Mets fans expected when he was tabbed as a rotation anchor. Senga himself pointed to mechanics over mindset, saying the stuff simply isn’t finishing the same way right now, which is showing up in the results.
Now, the New York Mets have decisions to make. Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean, and even Clay Holmes are all being floated as potential stabilizers if things don’t flip quickly.
