The New York Mets optioned Jonah Tong to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled fellow right-hander Joey Gerber from the same club on Wednesday.

Gerber can help replenish the bullpen after the Mets used six pitchers in their 3-2 loss in 10 innings to Seattle on Monday and four more in an 8-3 setback to the Mariners on Tuesday.

Tong was taken to task on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Canadian allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits -- including a homer -- in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Tong fell to 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in three relief appearances this season after being recalled from Syracuse late last month.

A seventh-round pick of the Mets in the 2022 MLB Draft, Tong debuted last season, posting a 2-3 record and 7.71 ERA in five starts.

Gerber, 29, fared well in his lone appearance with New York this season, striking out five batters over two scoreless innings of relief in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 13.

He is 1-1 with an 8.22 ERA in 14 games (one start) with two minor league teams this season.
