The New York Mets are reportedly promoting Carl Edwards Jr. to the big league roster, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Christian Scott was optioned in a corresponding move.

The Mets recently ended a 12-game losing streak. They have now earned two consecutive wins. The Mets would love to begin a winning streak. Edwards should be able to provide pitching depth on the roster.

The right-handed pitcher made his MLB debut in 2015. In 2016, Edwards was on the Chicago Cubs team that won the World Series. He pitched in Chicago from 2015 until the 2019 season, and Edwards has since spent time with a number of different teams. Most recently, Edwards appeared at the MLB level with the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers during the 2025 season.

He signed a minor league contract with the Mets this past offseason. The 34-year-old pitched to a 5.29 ERA across four outings at the Triple-A level. While his performance was underwhelming, New York is hopeful that the veteran can make an impact with the MLB team.

The Mets have endured a difficult season to say the least. Despite winning their past two games, New York is still just 9-16 overall. They are in fourth place in the National League East and only lead a Philadelphia Phillies squad that has dropped nine consecutive games as of this story’s writing

Nevertheless, New York still believes it can climb the standings and make a run for a postseason spot. The Mets will attempt to win their third consecutive contest on Friday night against the Colorado Rockies.
