Don't expect the New York Mets to drastically upgrade their roster before the start of the 2024 regular season.
According to SNY insider Andy Martino, the Mets have about $10 million left to spend this offseason and are focusing on adding relief pitchers.

The Mets' plan heading into the offseason was to retool for 2024 and not spend as much as they have in recent years. It appears that they are sticking to this blueprint given their underwhelming winter on the free agent and trade markets.
They are also paying a significant amount of dead money after trading Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer last season, which factored into their decision to shoot for 2025 as their next window to compete.
On Tuesday, the Mets were linked to relief pitchers Wandy Peralta and Brent Suter, according to The New York Post, two hurlers that could upgrade their bullpen.
But as for improving their offense, Martino added that a move to sign All-Star slugging DH J.D. Martinez or Justin Turner does not appear to be in the cards.
The only additions the Mets have made to their offense this winter was landing outfielders Harrison Bader and Tyrone Taylor. They also lost promising slugger Ronny Mauricio to a torn ACL.
The Mets still expect to compete in 2024, but it looks like they will be rolling the dice by not making anymore impact moves to boost their offense. At the very least, their bullpen will be upgraded, and All-Star closer Edwin Diaz will be returning from a knee injury.
