Opening Day is rapidly approaching for the New York Mets. They play their first regular season game on March 27 against the Houston Astros in what should be an entertaining matchup.
With the regular season almost here for the Mets, they have completed a last-minute trade as they continue to shake up their roster.
The Mets have traded minor league pitcher Michael Hobbs to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for cash, as reported by The Athletic's Will Sammon.
Hobbs' time with the Mets organization was quite short. The NL East club selected him from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the minor league phase of the 2024 Rule 5 draft back in December. Now, he is heading to the Mariners organization, where he will aim to continue to build on his game in the minor leagues.
Hobbs, 25, spent this past season with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate, the Tulsa Drillers. The right-hander had a solid year in their bullpen, posting a 2-1 record, a 2.97 ERA, and 52 strikeouts in 42 appearances. This was the Corona, California native's first time pitching at the Double-A level, and he handled himself well.
Overall, by acquiring Hobbs, the Mariners have added some young pitching depth to their system. If he continues to trend in the right direction, perhaps it could open the door for him to make his major league debut with the Mariners at some point during the year.
