The Mets are claiming righty Jack Anderson off waivers from the Twins, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. There wasn’t any indication Anderson had been removed from the Minnesota roster but they evidently put him on waivers recently.
It’s a busy time of year for transactions, especially with fringe players. The injured list goes away today at 4pm Central, meaning players on the 60-day IL need to retake 40-man spots. Just over the horizon, on November 17, is the Rule 5 protection deadline. Most teams will be giving roster spots to several prospects. Those dates put pressure on players near the edges of 40-man rosters.
This is the second waiver claim of 2026 for Anderson. He began the year in the Red Sox’ system and made a brief major league debut with Boston in April, getting into three games. He was optioned back to the minors and then was put on waivers in July. The Twins claimed him and then shuttled him between Triple-A and the majors for the rest of the season.
Anderson’s big league track record is still minimal. He has allowed three earned runs in 12 1/3 innings over seven appearances. The interest from the Mets presumably comes from his arsenal and minor league work. During his time in the big leagues this year, his fastball averaged below 91 miles per hour but also featured a splitter, slider and curveball. In the minors, he has been used in a swing role. He logged 180 innings over 2025 and 2026 with a 4.75 ERA, 23.3% strikeout rate and 6.7% walk rate.
The righty still has a couple of option years remaining, so the Mets could keep him a depth role next year, bringing him up whenever the big league staff needs a bit of a breather. It’s also possible they put him back on the waiver wire later in the offseason in the hope that he clears and can be kept as non-roster depth.
