The New York Mets had such high expectations heading into the 2026 season. New York made several moves during the offseason, showing off their large payroll and their hunger to reach a World Series.
Things aren’t turning out so well, so far. New York is under .500 on the season after getting swept by the Athletics. The Athletics also trolled New York on Sunday, after getting the brooms out.
“Read ’em and sweep,” the A’s posted to X, formerly Twitter, after defeating New York 1-0 Sunday.
With the loss, New York is now 7-9 on the season and searching for answers. The Mets have dropped six of their last 10 contests.
The Athletics meanwhile are one of the most interesting stories so far in the American League. The club has a 8-7 record and leads the American League West.
Things were so bad for the Mets on Sunday that they were booed off the field. New York has lost five games in a row. In two of the three games against the A’s, New York failed to score a single run.
“You have just got to stay consistent, you have to stay positive…..this is just a bad stretch,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said postgame, per SNY.
New York is looking for offense, as slugger Juan Soto is out dealing with an injury. Long-time slugger Pete Alonso is also no longer in the lineup, as he left the team following the 2025 season.
The Mets start a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. New York fans hope the wins can start coming, as the team searches for success in 2026.
