Mike Trout admits Angels sale was ‘needed’

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Arte Moreno is selling the Los Angeles Angels to Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke. Moreno has been the Angels owner since 2003 and he is expected to remain in a minority ownership role with the team. He is no longer the majority owner, however. Angels superstar Mike Trout admitted that the sale was “needed” while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, but he also said he has “no hard feelings” toward Moreno.

“I mean, you kind of felt that way, it was needed,” Trout said of the sale, via Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. “No hard feelings to Arte. But I’m super excited. The guys are excited. There’s a good vibe around the clubhouse, vibe around the stadium.”

The Angels have failed to reach the postseason since 2014. Trout only has three total games of playoff experience. He was arguably the best player in all of MLB for many years during his prime, but the Angels struggled to build a contender around him.

Trout has continued to remain loyal to the Angels. He seemingly wants to spend the remainder of his career in Anaheim. Of course, Trout is competitive and surely wants to win as well. One has to imagine that Trout is hoping the change in ownership will lead to the Angels building a more competitive team around him.

At 35 years old, Trout is not the same superstar he once was. Nevertheless, he is still an impactful player. The three-time MVP is hitting .241 to go along with an .807 OPS and 20 home runs across 119 games played this season.
