Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich won the NL MVP in 2018 after slugging 36 home runs, driving in 110 runs, stealing 22 bases, and posting a 1.000 OPS. He came close to winning the award in back-to-back seasons. Despite better numbers, a fractured patella forced him to miss the final stretch of the 2019 campaign and he finished second in MVP voting.

This year, Yelich is putting together his third straight season of strong production. After struggling from 2020 to 2022, he has rediscovered his rhythm at the plat, despite continuing to battle back issues, which ultimately required surgery last season.

In 2025, Yelich is truly looking like his old self, surpassing the 20-home run mark for the first time since 2019 and recently launching his 25th of the season. His overall numbers are impressive, and honestly, they should have him squarely in the MVP conversation.

One statistic that shows Milwaukee Brewers DH Christian Yelich should be in MVP discussions

According to Just Baseball, as of August 15, Yelich is one of four players this season with a wRC+ of 130 and at least 25 home runs and 15 stolen bases. Yelich comes in at 131/25/15, wheres Shohei Ohtani is at 174/43/17, Juan Soto 148/30/19, and Jose Ramirez 141/25/35. Additionally, Yelich has 86 RBI and a .825 OPS this year.

Yelich’s resurgence in 2025 has been nothing short of impressive, placing him among the game’s elite. His 131 wRC+, 25 home runs, and 15 stolen bases put him in rare company. However, when it comes to the NL MVP race, catching a generational two-way talent like Shohei Ohtani, who boasts a staggering 174 wRC+ with 43 homers and 17 steals, on top of his contributions on the mound, is nearly impossible.

Still, Yelich’s return to elite form remains one of the most compelling storylines of the season and a major reason why Milwaukee continues to thrive.
