The Milwaukee Brewers hit lucky win no. 13 in their scorching undefeated streak, with the Brew Crew smoking the Cincinnati Reds in the series opener at Great American Ball Park in Cincy Friday night.
It looked as though the Brewers were finally going to see their win streak end when they found themselves behind by seven runs after Reds outfielder Noelvi Marte drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the second inning.
As it turned out, that was the last time the Reds would score a run in the contest, as it was all Brewers offense the rest of the way.
The Brewers fell behind early in large part because of rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski’s ugly start. Just hours after coming off the injured list, Misiorowski surrendered five earned runs on four hits and issued three consecutive walks before the Brewers took him off the mound. Relief pitcher DL Hall replaced Misiorowski and proceeded to allow three earned runs on five hits.
Milwaukee then scored five runs in the top of the third inning and tied the score at 8-8 in the fourth frame off a two-run single by Christian Yelich. The Brewers finally grabbed the lead in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Yelich, who finished the contest 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Brandon Lockridge scored what would be the game’s final run following a wild pitch by Reds reliever Sam Moll.
Apart from keeping their win streak alive, the Brewers also made history.
“THE BREWERS Their 7-run comeback is the largest by a team to extend a win streak to 13 or more games,” Sarah Lang of MLB.com shared in a post on X.
The Brewers improved to 77-44 and will look to hit their 15th win in a row this Saturday in the second game of the Cincy series.
