More prospects received promotions between May 18 and 19, including some notable former first-rounders. Caden Bodine, one of the best contact hitters in the Carolina League & a 2025 first-round pick, was promoted to High-A. Gage Wood, meanwhile, completely skipped the level.
The Phillies promoted 2025 first-round pick Gage Wood from Low-A Clearwater to Double-A Reading, bypassing High-A Jersey Shore completely.
Wood was one of the top strikeout pitchers in the Florida State League and one of the best swing-and-miss pitchers in the circuit. Known at Arkansas for having one of the toughest fastballs in the NCAA, Wood’s four-seamer had a Whiff% of 38%. His slider nearly had a 40% swing-and-miss rate.
It’s also worth noting that Wood, primarily a two-pitch pitcher in Arkansas, did work in a curveball and changeup in there, as well.
Former first-round picks Seaver King and Ralphy Velazquez were promoted from the Double-A Eastern League to the Triple-A International League. The two left the EL in a three-way tie for third in the circuit in total hits (46), alongside Giants prospect Scott Bandura.
King, known for being highly aggressive in A-ball last season, changed his tune this season. We noted as much earlier in the year. He walked 22 times in 35 contests with Double-A Harrisburg, ten fewer than his total over 125 games in 2025.
As for Velazquez, the former first-rounder for the Guardians picked up seven home runs and 19 extra-base hits over 36 games with Akron.
Orioles pitching prospect Joseph Dzierwa was promoted to Double-A Chesapeake after a dominant run with High-A Frederick.
Astros prospect Jason Schiavone, who led the South Atlantic League in home runs (17) as of May 19, was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi.
Mike Sirota, who hit .322 with High-A Great Lakes, is now up with Double-A Tulsa.
Emil Morales (Dodgers), Isaac Ayon (Dodgers), and Caden Bodine (Rays) were promoted to High-A.
