MLB best bets: Wiesguy's 2 Picks and a Prop for 6/5

Friday was another winning day with the Twins and Rockies coming through. I am not going to review the games in detail though as you have probably forgotten all about them with the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup over the weekend.

Tonight we do not have quite the full slate, as it is Monday after all, but seven evening games are enough to give us a pretty good menu. Unfortunately only one of those is a matchup of winning teams – Houston vs. Toronto. Toronto is warming up again too.

Let's pick some winners to start the week tonight.

MLB Picks for Monday, June 5

Favorite
Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5 (+110) (vs. Oakland A's)

The Pirates are feeling good again and a visit from the A's, the worst team in the league should not dent that. They have won five in a row and starter Johan Oviedo has not given up more than three runs in any of his last four starts. There are lots of good reasons to back Pittsburgh in this spot but the best is probably the opponent. Oakland is the worst team in the league and it is not close.  When the values make sense they are an easy fade.

Underdog
Milwaukee Brewers +110 (at Cincinnati Reds)

The line on this one has been moving a lot, so much so that the Brewers are now worth a shot at that plus value. Lefty Julio Teheran did not pitch in the majors last season but has been solid for the Brewers so far this season. Milwaukee has also taken the first three games of this series and will be facing a lefty making his first MLB start in Andrew Abbott. I usually like to back a legit prospect making their debut but not when you have to pay a premium for it.

Prop
Alek Manoah Over 4.5 Strikeouts +130

This year has been a disaster for Alek Manoah. His control has been way off and we have not seen much of the pitcher that nearly won the Cy Young Award last year. However, he has bested this K total in two of his last three starts and had some success in limited action against the Astros. If he can get to five innings this one should pay off.
