With Jazz Chisholm Jr sidelined for more than a month due to a high-grade oblique tear suffered on a swing in an April 29 game against the Orioles, the New York Yankees would presumably be looking for infield reinforcements.
The Bombers are now on a three-game losing streak following a 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on Monday, with former top prospects Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas at third base and second base. Vivas made his MLB debut May 2.
While rumors circulated surrounding the Yankees and Cardinals All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado in the spring, the teams never came close to a deal.
Despite the Yankees' newfound pressing need at third base, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman poured hot water on any rumors around a trade sending Nolan Arenado to the Bronx.
Arenado would be a great fit. The strong suspicion: the Yankees’ tax bracket (110 percent) is the big hurdle, and if they spend, it’ll need to be on pitching https://t.co/sEubh6I9r8

Heyman acknowledged Arenado would be a great fit in the Bronx, with the primary limitation being the Yankees' already bloated payroll.
The team seems committed to giving youngsters like Vivas and Peraza playing time in Chisholm's absence, mostly in the hopes that they prove to be fruitful internal additions. Vivas was acquired in the trade that sent now-Tigers shortstop Trey Sweeney to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Arenado has a no-trade clause, which he'd need to waive in order to be sent to the Bronx if the Cardinals agreed to trade terms with New York.
Rumors swelled around Arenado and the Yankees when the 10-time Gold Glove award winner made a three-hour trip to play against the Yankees in Spring Training, a move considered highly unorthodox for a veteran.
