MLB Reacts to Pete Crow-Armstrong News on Thursday

Pete Crow-Armstrong may only be 23 years old, but he's already turning heads in Major League Baseball with a breakout season for the Chicago Cubs. On Thursday, the young center fielder made history against the Milwaukee Brewers, joining an elite club with his 20th home run of the year.

While Crow-Armstrong isn't a rookie — he played in 123 games last season — this is his first full year in the majors, and he's making the most of it.

In the first inning on Thursday, Crow-Armstrong launched a home run off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta, putting the Cubs up 2-1. MLB quickly spotlighted the achievement with a celebratory post:

"Pete Crow-Armstrong, welcome to the 20/20 club. He joins an ELITE list of names as his MVPete season continues!"

It took Crow-Armstrong just 73 games to reach 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. That tied him with Ken Williams, who hit the milestone in 73 games in 1922. Only three players have done it faster in MLB history, including Fernando Tatis Jr. in 2021 (71 games) and Jose Canseco in 1998 (68 games). The fastest ever? Eric Davis in 1987, who did it in just 46 games with the Cincinnati Reds.

Last year, Crow-Armstrong saw limited action, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 47 runs over 372 at-bats. He debuted briefly in 2023, appearing in only 13 games with 14 at-bats.

Coming into Thursday’s game, Crow-Armstrong was batting .270 with 58 RBIs. He ranked among the top 10 in the National League in both home runs and RBIs.

The Cubs, now 45-28 and holding a 6.5-game lead in the NL Central, will remain at home this weekend for a series against the Seattle Mariners.
