Mookie Betts opens up about Dodgers’ losing streak ‘rut’

The Los Angeles Dodgers must have believed that they would put an end to their losing streak on Tuesday as they had their recent trade acquisition, Tarik Skubal, on the mound. However, the Dodgers’ losing streak reached five games after they lost to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, 5-1.

In particular, Mookie Betts has not been very good at the plate for the Dodgers. During their five-game losing streak, the shortstop has gone just 1-16 from the plate with no walks to show for it. He now has an OPS of .670 on the season, and suffice to say, it looks like his days as one of the best hitters in MLB are long gone.

After the loss to the Cubs, Betts expressed his confusion as to why nothing seems to be working for him even though he believes that he’s been making good contact with the ball.

“It’s a long season. Just a rut. It’s okay. Everything’s okay. I just know I need to be better,” Betts said, via DodgersMuse on X. “I honestly have no idea (why nothing’s working). I feel like I’m hitting the ball hard, and I have the sense that I’m laying off bad pitches and putting together good ABs. But every time it connects with the bat, it flies right at the defense.”
