We have an exciting NL East matchup to wrap up this three-game series as the New York Mets go on the road to take on the Atlanta Braves on Thursday evening. The Braves are looking for a sweep after winning on Wednesday, 5-0. The Mets are first in the division with a 45-29 record and are sending righty Clay Holmes to the bump. The Braves are sitting in third place in the division with a 33-39 record and have young right-hander Spencer Strider taking the ball.

The New York Mets are looking to continue hitting at a great level as they are fifth in MLB with a .246/.329/.418 team slash line while scoring 4.49 runs per game. The Braves are sending young righty Spencer Strider to the hill and been trying to find his footing so far as in his first six starts, he is 1-5 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 31.0 innings of work. He has been able to step up and limit hits as he has a .214 opposing batting average right now. Strider faced the Mets three separate times in the 2023 season and was 2-0 in 16.0 innings and allowed 12 runs on 16 hits with one hit by pitch, nine walks, and 22 strikeouts.

Prediction

The Atlanta Braves had Chris Sale record 26 outs on Wednesday to essentially reset the bullpen while Paul Blackburn pitched 3.2 innings during the game so the bullpen was taxed. Spencer Strider is coming off his best outing since returning from injury and this should improve Atlanta’s chances as he has a .194 batting average in the last three starts. Atlanta’s offense is beginning to heat up and Clay Holmes was pulled from his last start after 79 pitches so he could be getting a bit fatigued. All in all, go with the Atlanta Braves to win here and sweep the series.
