New York Radio Host Blames Mets Manager For Missed Opportunity With Francisco Lindor Errors

Francisco Lindor recovered in time from a left hamate bone surgery to be ready for the New York Mets on Opening Day. But the Mets shortstop is off to a poor start to the 2026 campaign. Moreover, Lindor made a couple of atrocious errors on the field in Game 3 of their series on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this week.

Sports radio host Evan Roberts of WFAN 660 believes New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza should have benched Francisco Lindor for his costly errors on Wednesday. He feels that by not taking Lindor out of the game, Mendoza squandered a glorious opportunity to set a strong example to the entire team regarding the standards expected out of every player.

“Carlos Mendoza missed out on such a big opportunity,” Roberts said on air. “What Carlos Mendoza missed out on was not benching Francisco Lindor because he’s an idiot. But benching Lindor because it was an opportunity to show the rest of that locker room, “Hey, if he could bench Lindor for making a mental mistake, then all of us should be on high alert.””

Lindor did not make a throw to turn a double play in the first inning of Game 3 against the Giants, as he wrongly thought the Mets had completed the third out when he stepped on second base to get a forceout. Later, he was out at first base after making no attempt to slide back safely to the bag from his massive lead on a pickoff throw.

Evan Roberts Feels Francisco Lindor Would Accept Punishment Without Complaining

Evan Roberts says Carlos Mendoza would not have strained his relationship with Francisco Lindor by benching him for his unprofessional errors. Like major superstars in any sport, Lindor will not hold any qualms about the punishment because he knows its significance in the overall perspective for the team.

“Francisco Lindor can handle it. Much like Tim Duncan handled Gregg Popovich publicly reaming him in front of his teammates. The way Tom Brady handled getting publicly reamed by Bill Belichick during team meetings,” Roberts said.

Lindor remained in the New York Mets’ starting lineup for their series opener against the San Francisco Giants. He went 0-4 in the game to continue his poor run with the bat while the Mets are on a three-game losing streak following the 7-2 loss to the Giants on Thursday night.
