BOSTON – The Arizona Diamondbacks can afford very little uncertainty right now, which is why Nolan Arenado’s upcoming MRI carries significant weight.

Nolan Arenado set to receive MRI:

Arenado is scheduled to undergo an MRI in Boston after experiencing trunk discomfort. For a team fighting for a Wild Card spot, the concern isn’t simply whether Arenado misses one game. It’s what his absence could mean if the injury becomes something more serious. Arenado has brought stability, which is something that cannot be easily replaced.

His reputation as one of baseball’s premier defensive third basemen is well established, but his impact extends beyond highlight-reel plays. Arenado provides a veteran presence in a lineup that needs dependable at-bats and leadership during high-pressure moments. That matters even more late in the season.

The Diamondbacks don’t simply need Arenado to hit. They need his glove, communication and experience on a nightly basis. At third base, one defensive mistake can turn a routine inning into a crooked number, particularly when every game carries postseason implications.
Arizona also faces a difficult reality if Arenado is forced to miss significant time. Replacing his offensive production is one challenge. Replacing his defensive excellence and clubhouse presence is another.

That’s why the MRI represents more than a medical update. It could determine whether Arizona continues pushing toward October with one of its most trusted veterans or has to adjust its strategy during the most important stretch of the season.
