The Baltimore Orioles are getting their ace back.

The Orioles announced they have reinstated Trevor Rogers from the 15-day injured list ahead of tonight’s matchup against the New York Yankees. Rogers will take the mound in his return.

In a corresponding move, Baltimore optioned reliever Jose Espada to Triple-A Norfolk.

Rogers missed time with a serious illness that had him “feeling like death.” Before landing on the injured list, his season told two very different stories across six starts.

In his first three outings, Rogers looked like the 2025 version of himself that emerged as a breakout star. During that stretch, he went 2-0 across 19 innings with a 1.89 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

However, Rogers struggled over his final three starts before the illness. He went 0-3 and allowed 12 earned runs during that period, raising his ERA to 4.75.

The Orioles need Rogers to look more like the pitcher he was early in the season. Baltimore’s rotation has struggled mightily all year, posting a 5.03 ERA that ranks 28th in Major League Baseball.

Other key starters like Shane Baz, Chris Bassitt, and Kyle Bradish have consistently failed to deliver quality outings, often allowing games to spiral out of control early. Baltimore has also dealt with mounting injuries that have derailed its season.

Despite all of that, Baltimore has stayed afloat at 19-23 and sits just one game back in the American League Wild Card race. If Rogers and the rest of the rotation can find some consistency while the team gets healthy, the Orioles have as good a chance as anyone to reach the playoffs in a weak American League.

After rallying late to beat the Yankees last night, the Orioles will look to carry that momentum into tonight with Rogers back on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET as Rogers squares off against Yankees right-hander Will Warren.
