The Baltimore Orioles endured another disappointing season in 2026, missing the playoffs and finishing below .500 for the second year in a row.
With the Orioles heading into a pivotal offseason, they'll have a new general manager in their front office. On Monday, they named Jared Banner their new GM.
Banner will work alongside Baltimore's President of Baseball Operations Mike Elias, who was also the team's previous GM. By focusing on player development, coaching and performance, Banner will take some of the work off Elias' plate and allow his boss to concentrate on big-picture strategy, staffing, talent acquisition, and other duties.
Banner has 18 years of baseball operations experience, most recently with the Chicago Cubs. He was their assistant GM for the last three seasons, helping them make the playoffs twice during that span.
He also spent three years with the New York Mets and 11 years with the Boston Red Sox, helping the latter win three World Series titles.
Given his experience and track record of success for other organizations, Banner seems like a great hire for the Orioles. As Elias' partner, he'll try to help them turn things around and become a contender in the AL East.
