The Orioles became the latest team to fill a managerial vacancy, as reports indicate that Craig Albernaz will take over as manager. Albernaz comes to Baltimore with both Minor League managerial experience, as well as experience on a Major League bench.
Craig Albernaz comes over from the Guardians, where he spent the past few seasons working with Stephen Vogt. Albernaz was the Cleveland bench coach in 2023, and moved to associate manager in 2024.
Albernaz is a product of the Rays organization. Before getting into coaching, he was a longtime Minor Leaguer in the Rays organization. He moved into managing early in his post-playing tenure, as he managed the Short-Season A Hudson Valley Renegades in 2017 just three years after his final pro season. The year later, Albernaz won 90 games with Low-A Bowling Green.
He later moved into a coaching role with the Giants.
Albernaz takes over from interim manager Tony Mansolino, who took over from Brandon Hyde after Hyde was fired in May 2025. At the time, the Orioles were dead-last in the American League in runs allowed. Baltimore had a 60-59 record under Mansolino.
The new Orioles manager will take over a team that made the playoffs in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, the Orioles won the American League East. While the O’s didn’t make it to the postseason in 2025, there’s still plenty of young talent to work with.
Among the talent is a rotation that’ll likely include Trevor Rogers, Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, and Tyler Wells. Rodriguez missed all of 2025, while Bradish and Wells missed most of it.
Gunnar Henderson, Colton Cowser, Jackson Holliday, and rookies Dylan Beavers and Samuel Basallo are among the notable hitters on the Orioles.
Albernaz becomes the fourth new manager for 2026.
ESPN reported the news of Albernaz’s hiring.
