Otto López Makes Statement Following Injury Concern

The Miami Marlins are currently experiencing one of the worst collapses in their franchise's history.

On July 9, the Marlins were a season-high 10 games above the .500 mark. Just two and a half weeks later, the team has fallen to one game under .500. Coming into Sunday, they are riding an 11-game losing streak.

For a couple games amid the skid, Miami was without their All-Star Shortstop, Otto López.

López injured his right ring finger during a fielding error against the Brewers on July 18. He missed two games with inflammation and swelling in the nail area of his finger.

While back in the lineup, the 27-year-old is still dealing with the finger issue, but he has no plans on coming off the field, stating, "they will have to kill me," in regards to the team sitting him.

I spoke to Otto Lopez before the game. His finger is obviously bothering him. Looks like he is in pain on swings and sometimes throws. He told me “they will have to kill me.” to not play. This is a team making no excuses.

It is extremely important for López to stay on the field for Miami with their playoff hopes quickly slipping away.

He has been the driving force of the Marlins offense this year, slashing .331/.366/.495, good for an .861 OPS, with 47 RBIs and 133 hits in 101 games.

It will be a tough task for him to lead the fish back into October, as they have fallen to fourth place in the National League East and three games back of a Wild Card Spot.
