The Milwaukee Brewers lineup features some of the best depth in baseball from top to bottom, thanks to the organization’s developmental success and ability to spot talent. One player who fits that mold is Brice Turang, now in his fourth year at the big-league level.
The 26-year-old broke out in 2025, finally living up to the expectations he carried as a former first-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. Last year, Turang posted career-high numbers across the board, recording a .288 batting average, .359 on-base percentage, .794 OPS, 18 home runs and 81 RBIs.
He added 24 stolen bases and continued to play excellent defense up the middle, which is no surprise considering he is a one-time Platinum Glove winner.
As the Brewers prepared for Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, they were set to face left-hander Garrett Crochet. When the lineup was released, Turang was surprisingly absent, marking his first missed game of the season.
At first glance, it appeared Milwaukee might have opted for David Hamilton at second base due to Turang’s struggles in non-platoon matchups, especially with Crochet being one of the best southpaws in the game. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy spoke with reporters during pregame and announced that Turang’s removal from the lineup was injury-related.
"It’s not just the pitching matchup that has Brice Turang on the bench to begin tonight’s game. He’s dealing with some kind of foot or ankle injury, said Pat Murphy, who indicated more information is forthcoming.," reported Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

Turang is off to a hot start this year, collecting 10 hits in his first 37 at-bats along with one home run and seven RBIs, so it is a real setback for him to be dealing with an injury.
Fortunately for the small-market Brewers, Turang is under contract through the 2030 season, meaning he is here to stay and remains cost-controlled. He also took part in the World Baseball Classic during spring training, helping him gain more recognition beyond Milwaukee.
The Brewers hope this day off allows him to recover from the foot or ankle issue, and they are certainly hoping it is nothing serious.
The club is already down two everyday starters in Andrew Vaughn and Jackson Chourio, so any extended absence from Turang would be an even bigger blow.
Despite the injury setbacks, Milwaukee still owns an 8-2 record and looks like the early frontrunner to capture the National League Central once again.
