Pat Murphy believes Brewers’ ‘committed’ attitude will prevail

After finding themselves on the wrong side of the most home runs hit by a Chicago Cubs team in franchise history on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers fought back in a major way on Tuesday, securing a 9-4 victory thanks to 13 hits by Christian Yelich, Joey Ortiz, and company.

Discussing how his team was able to bounce back in such a major way on Tuesday, Pat Murphy let it be known that his team may not be the most talented or expensive, but they are committed, and that matters in September.

“Well, I think this, you know, they’re committed. They’re very committed. We might not be the most talented. We might not be the deepest. We might not be the most experienced. We got three players 22 and under; I think that’s in the top-10 in the whole league in youth, but they’re committed,” Murphy said.

“And when you’re committed, and you do things like this, and you respond in a hostile environment, I think this is the biggest home-field advantage for any team, and you know to respond the way they did after the shellacking last night and the way the Cubs played defense even early in the game tonight, Hoerner’s making plays that. Wow, he’s a great shortstop. He might be the second-best shortstop on the team, but he might be the second best in the league, you know, it’s amazing, and they hit in the clutch, and they’ve got so much experience up and down; they’re hungry. But for us to respond, I think that shows that this team can be special.”

Sitting at 86-53 with at least a three-game lead over the Dodgers – who are still playing at time of publication – the Brewers would begin the playoffs with a bye if they began today. While there’s still plenty of important baseball left to play, if they continue to scrap for every single win like their effort against the Cubs, it can only spell good things come October.
