The Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran Relief Pitcher David Robertson to a one-year $5 million contract on Sunday. He has not pitched in the majors this season and will report to Lehigh Valley (AAA). He pitched last season for the Texas Rangers and is no stranger to the Phillies organization. This will be his third stint with the ballclub. He spent time there in 2019 and 2022. How will his third stint with the team go?

The Phillies have had a great starting rotation this season. The issue has been the team’s bullpen. Philadelphia has the eighth-worst bullpen ERA in Major League Baseball. Closer Jordan Romano has been miserable. He has a 6.88 ERA. Relief Pitcher Jose Alvarado was also suspended 80 games for a performance-enhancing substance earlier this year. Robertson will give the Phillies stability late in the game as they gear up for what they hope is a deep postseason run.
Signing Robertson is a shrewd move by the organization. He will help stabilize the team’s major weakness. He will look to regain his form from years past during the second half of the regular season.
