The Philadelphia Phillies are starting a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves tonight in a huge series with the Phillies currently holding a five-game lead over the Braves for first place in the National League East. The Phillies are coming off a series win their second straight, they also dropped a series to the Braves last week and were outscored 8-6 in the three games. Ahead of tonight’s game the Phillies recalled RHP Yunior Marte from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and optioned RHP Michael Mercado to the IronPigs.
Marte appeared in 22 games with the Phillies this season posting a 7.13 ERA, a 5.71 FIP, a 1.92 WHIP, a 5.3 BB/9, and an 8.6 K/9 in 24 innings. His last outing came on the 10th in which he went 0.2 innings giving up seven runs on six hits; he walked one and struck out two. With the IronPigs, he’s appeared in 15 games going 1-0 with a 5.63 ERA, a 1.94 WHIP, a 5.1 BB/9, and a 7.9 K/9 in 16 innings.
Mercado has appeared in five games with two of them coming as starts, he went 1-2 with an 11.08 ERA, a 12.94 FIP, a 1.92 WHIP, a 6.2 BB/9, and a 6.9 K/9 in 13 innings. His last appearance came yesterday going 1.1 innings giving up four runs on four hits; he walked one and struck out two. With the IronPigs this season he’s made 24 appearances with ten of those coming as starts going 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, a 6.2 BB/9, and a 6.9 K/9 in 59.2 innings.
