Philadelphia Phillies rumors are certainly going to pick up in the coming weeks. Owners of the best record in baseball, they will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline, looking to put the finishing touches on one of the strongest rosters in the league.
When taking a look at the team’s roster, there aren’t any glaring weaknesses. They are strong top to bottom, whether that is in the lineup or with the pitching staff. However, ESPN’s MLB insider Jeff Passan has provided an update on what the team could seek.
If recent Phillies rumors are to be believed, the team is in the market for some outfield assistance. Passan provided the update, with an interesting potential lineup change once Philadelphia is healthy as well.
“Short of moving Edmundo Sosa to the outfield once Trea Turner returns, the Phillies don’t have much in the way of internal help to solve their outfield hitting issues. They’ll be all over the outfield market. Otherwise, though, there’s no real weakness to address at the deadline. Maybe a utility man? Potentially another reliever to add to a group that with Jeff Hoffman, Matt Strahm, Orion Kerkering, Jose Alvarado, Seranthony Dominguez, Jose Ruiz and Gregory Soto has spent the last month looking downright unhittable? President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski tends to adhere to a go-big-or-go-home philosophy, and whether it’s Robert, Arozarena or even Tucker, he’s got the minor league system to convince an on-the-fence team to deal a true impact outfielder,” wrote Passan.
Nothing is guaranteed in sports. Just because the Phillies are playing well this season doesn’t necessarily mean that will be the case in 2025 and beyond. With that in mind, it would not be shocking to see them go all-in as Passan noted.
They are legitimate World Series contenders and have the means to make a big move. Inserting a player of Luis Robert or Randy Arozarena’s caliber into their lineup would be a major boost despite their struggles this season.
Producing in the manner that they are even without Trea Turner in the lineup is quite impressive. When he gets back healthy, they will be an even more dangerous team. Finding consistent at-bats for Edmundo Sosa will be a must for manager Rob Thomson.
As currently constructed, Philadelphia can compete for a World Series. But, expect Phillies rumors to continue through the deadline as they will jump at the opportunity to upgrade the roster should it present itself.
