Philadelphia Philliesthird baseman Alec Bohm has had an eventful start to his 2026 MLB season, both on and off the field. At the plate, Bohm has struggled to produce. Now in his seventh season with the Phillies, the 29-year-old has just nine hits in his first 58 at-bats, including one home run and 10 RBIs across 15 games.

For a player entering a contract year, the timing could not be worse. Off the field, Bohm is dealing with a legal dispute in which he is suing his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, alleging they mismanaged his finances.

The situation comes at a crucial point in his career, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026 season. If he performs to his potential, he could secure a major contract, but the distractions have been significant.

As Bohm tries to get back on track before Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, he has made a decision that will heavily impact his career and his upcoming free agency. Bohm has fired agent Scott Boras, the most prominent representative in MLB known for maximizing contract value for his clients.

According to The Athletic, Bohm has instead returned to Nick Chanock of The Team (formerly Wasserman). Bohm stated that his parents steered him toward hiring Boras in 2020 under “considerable duress” to “further their own interests, to my detriment.”

Bohm distancing himself from Boras signals a desire to regain control of his career, especially with his financial dispute tied directly to decisions made under pressure. Choosing Chanock again reflects a return to an advisor he trusted before his parents intervened.

Now, the focus shifts back to baseball. Bohm was drafted third overall by the Phillies in the 2018 MLB Draft, and his career has featured highs and lows.

His best season came in 2024 when he earned his first All-Star selection, and he has routinely helped the Phillies reach the postseason. The Phillies need him locked in, and Bohm needs a strong season to stabilize his future.
