Philadelphia Phillies left-handed slugger Kyle Schwarber is in the midst of another excellent season. Signed this past winter to a five-year, $150 million contract after finishing runner-up in National League MVP voting in 2025, he had massive expectations heading into this season.
Schwarber has delivered so far. Across 75 games, he has posted a .252 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, .959 OPS, MLB-leading 29 home runs and 52 RBIs.
Schwarber has somehow increased his production this year and has been the biggest reason the Phillies have climbed out of their early-season hole and are once again positioned to make the playoffs.
He will also most likely represent the National League at this year's All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park, which would mark his third selection as a member of the Phillies.
Part of what makes Schwarber so important to Philadelphia is his availability. Last year, he played in all 162 games, and across five years with the organization he has missed just 24 total regular-season games.
Unfortunately, he is set to miss his 25th on Tuesday. Moments before the game against the Washington Nationals, Schwarber was a late scratch due to an injury.
"Kyle Schwarber is out with tightness in his lower back, Phillies said," reported Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation.

Edmundo Sosa stepped in at designated hitter to fill his spot. It is unclear when Schwarber initially suffered the setback and whether it is serious enough to force a stint on the injured list. Interim manager Don Mattingly will likely provide further updates on his condition after the game.
