Phillies Announce Trade Moments Before MLB Trade Deadline

On Monday, the Phillies struck a deal with the San Francisco Giants to acquire four-time All-Star infielder Luis Arraez and right-hander Caleb Kilian. Later, the team agreed to another trade, acquiring reliever Brooks Raley from the New York Mets.

While the Phillies' biggest swings are likely now completed, the club made another transaction less than two hours from the deadline. Philadelphia acquired right-handed pitching prospect Manuel Colon and cash considerations from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed reliever Nolan Hoffman.

“The Phillies have acquired minor league RHP Manuel Colon and cash considerations from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for RHP Nolan Hoffman (DFA’d on 8/3),” the team announced on X.

While the trade is unlikely to have an immediate impact on Philadelphia's major league roster, it allowed the Phillies to receive value for Hoffman after designating him for assignment earlier on Monday.

In return, Philadelphia acquired 19-year-old right-handed reliever Manuel Colon, who has spent the 2026 season pitching in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League for the ACL Royals. Over 20 appearances, he posted a 5.27 ERA with 36 strikeouts across 27.1 innings.

Although Colon is still several years away from the majors, the young prospect gives the Phillies another developmental arm to add to their farm system. As the Phillies continue their push toward the postseason, the club will hope its larger deadline additions make the biggest impact this season while they continue to develop their young prospects.
