The Philadelphia Phillies are in a good spot with just a few weeks remaining in the MLB season. With an 83-60 record, they are seven games ahead of the New York Mets in the NL East, and they own the second-best record in the NL, only behind the Milwaukee Brewers. Furthermore, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
After losing to the Houston Astros in the 2022 World Series, Philadelphia has a great opportunity to make it back this year and win its first championship in nearly two decades. However, the team recently announced news regarding shortstop Trea Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm that came at a very unfortunate time.
According to Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation, Philadelphia will place Turner and Bohm on the 10-day IL.
"Alec Bohm and Trea Turner are going on the IL," Lugardo wrote on X.

Turner suffered a hamstring injury while running the first base during the Phillies' loss to the Miami Marlins. As for Bohm, he is reportedly dealing with a sore shoulder.
Though the Phillies should feel comfortable with their spot in the standings, this is still an unfortunate development. The playoffs are less than a month away, and the Phillies have legitimate championship aspirations. This is a great time for them to build momentum heading into the postseason, but with injuries to two of their top players, they are now dealing with a major obstacle ahead of the home stretch of the season.
10-day IL stints for Turner and Bohm are far from ideal for the Phillies. However, they could each still return by the end of the regular season, which they are hoping is the case.
According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, the Phillies are "hopeful" that their star shortstop can return before the start of the playoffs.
"Phillies seem hopeful star SS Trea Turner (hamstring) might be back for playoffs, maybe even a little before," Heyman wrote on X.

While losing Bohm is also tough for Philadelphia, it is fair to assume they may feel Turner's absence a bit more.
Now in his third season with the Phillies, Turner is continuing to make a major impact. So far this year, the Florida native is hitting an NL-best .305 and has recorded 15 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 36 stolen bases.
Though he was not named an All-Star this season, there is no doubt that Turner is crucial to Philadelphia's success. Hopefully for him and the team, he can return as soon as possible as the team looks to make some noise in the playoffs.
