The Philadelphia Phillies (83–59) are riding a three-game winning streak and hold a commanding seven-game lead over the New York Mets heading into Sunday. Philadelphia's offense has been a force once again in 2025, with shortstop Trea Turner leading the charge at the top of the order.

The 32-year-old has spent the last three seasons of his 11-year MLB career with Philadelphia and is having one of his best campaigns yet. Over 139 games, Turner has posted an NL-leading .305 batting average, .357 on-base percentage, .812 OPS, 14 home runs and 36 stolen bases, while taking a step forward defensively.

During the top of the seventh inning Sunday, Turner reached on an error but immediately ran into the clubhouse, raising concern among Phillies fans. Edmundo Sosa replaced him as a pinch runner and remained in the game at shortstop.

Moments later, the Phillies announced some news regarding Turner's removal. The shortstop has suffered a strained right hamstring and will be further evaluated.

“Phillies say it’s a strained right hamstring for Trea Turner. He will be further evaluated,” wrote Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation.

Turner exited without assistance but was visibly limping, and early indications suggest he may be headed for the injured list. If Turner misses extended time, it would be a massive blow to Philadelphia, especially with ace Zack Wheeler already sidelined. Sosa would continue to fill in at shortstop, but he’s a clear downgrade offensively.

Turner, a three-time All-Star and former World Series champion, has been central to the Phillies’ success this year. He currently leads all of MLB in at-bats (583), a testament to his durability and consistency.
